I decided to keep my homeschoolblogger blog as well.
I have decided to do a bird "unit study" with my 2 oldest. I guess it would be called a unit study. I went to the library and found a bunch of books about birds. I started with books that are more generic and cover a vast array of different kinds and types of birds. Then, I picked some books about specific parts of birds (such as beaks), but it still covers all birds. Then, I went more specific and found some books on different types of birds. For example, turkeys, penguins, owls, etc. This way they could see that there are lots of different types of birds. If the kids get really interested in one of the birds we may stop and cover that bird more extensively.
After I compiled all of my books I found some great experiments/crafts/projects to use with each book. They are really fun ideas! One of them includes making a bird feeder to hang outside and see what winter birds come to it. Then, we will graph them for added bonus later in the week. How cool is that?! You could also do a lapbook if that is what your family enjoys.
Anyways, over the next week or however long it takes me to get it all out I plan to share our complete unit study with you guys. Each day I will add a little more info. for another day of the unit study. It will include the books that I used and the activities that I used. Plus, probably some additional ideas of what you could do. Hope you enjoy!
